This intrinsic need to move, to see the world, and to relentlessly pursue new experiences is both my greatest asset and, at times, my most challenging weakness. It’s the driving force that propels me to achieve, to journey, and to make each day count. Yet, it’s also the very reason I can feel the onset of burnout, a creeping sense of unease when circumstances demand I remain rooted in one place for an extended period. And right now, that latter feeling is very much taking hold.
My mind is abuzz with dreams of distant landscapes and bustling cityscapes. All I truly desire is to hail a cab, head straight to the airport, and board the very next flight to anywhere, eager to immerse myself in a completely new environment. But alas, a girl has responsibilities, and work calls. To combat this intense bout of cabin fever, I thought it would be the perfect time to embark on a delightful stroll down memory lane, inviting you all along for the journey.
It comes as no surprise to anyone who knows me, or has followed my adventures, that one of my absolute favorite aspects of travel is the incredible opportunity to sample new cuisines. If you’ve delved into any of my previous travel recaps, you’ll undoubtedly notice a recurring theme: approximately 90% of my photographs either feature food front and center, involve food in some delightful capacity, or were captured just before or immediately after a memorable meal. Indeed, what more authentic or enjoyable way could there be to truly understand and savor a new city, a different culture, than through the unforgettable tastes and aromas experienced on your palate?

Our gastronomic adventure begins with a heartwarming throwback to the summer of 2012, a truly special trip to the breathtaking island of Kauai, Hawaii. This particular escape happened to coincide with my 23rd birthday, and my incredibly thoughtful parents decided to elevate the celebrations to an entirely new level of grandeur. The day began with an exhilarating private flight, soaring majestically over the lush, verdant landscapes of Kauai Island. From above, the island unfolded beneath us like a vibrant tapestry of emerald peaks, dramatic cliffs, and pristine coastlines, a truly awe-inspiring perspective that set the tone for an unforgettable day.
Following this aerial spectacle, we descended for what would become one of the most delicious and memorable meals of my life at The Beach House Restaurant. Nestled elegantly on the Poipu coastline, The Beach House offers an unparalleled dining experience, where the gentle murmur of the Pacific Ocean provides a soothing soundtrack and panoramic views of the sunset paint the sky in fiery hues. The atmosphere was pure magic – sophisticated yet relaxed, with the fresh ocean breeze carrying whispers of the tropics. As I indulged in a slice of the most exquisite birthday carrot cake I have ever tasted – rich, moist, and perfectly spiced – watching the sun dip below the horizon, casting a golden glow across the water, it was an absolutely sublime moment. The combination of perfect company, a stunning setting, and culinary delight made it one of the absolute highlights of my life. If I possessed the ability to transport myself back to any single moment in time, it would undoubtedly be to that very spot, savoring that cake, witnessing that magnificent Kauai sunset.

For those who have followed my journey for a while, it’s no secret that I once called the vibrant metropolis of New York City home. Living in NYC, one inevitably tries their fair share of incredible restaurants, as the city truly is a “foodie heaven” with an endless array of culinary delights around every corner. From bustling street food vendors to Michelin-starred establishments, the options are boundless and often overwhelming. Yet, amidst this dazzling tapestry of dining experiences, one particular place managed to steal my heart, and it wasn’t just for its incredible food.
Okay, perhaps it was a combination: one incredible person stole my heart, and one of our very first dates together took place at the enchanting ABC Kitchen. Consequently, I will forever associate this exquisite restaurant with the love of my life, making it undeniably one of my most cherished dining memories. This truly is a little flashback to one of mine and C’s earliest adventures in dating. I vividly recall the exquisite farro salad, bursting with fresh flavors and textures, the surprisingly delicious brussels sprout pizza – a dish that instantly converted me into a fan – and the perfectly cooked kobe beef burger, each bite a testament to quality ingredients. Oh, and the delightful bottle of Malbec we shared, its rich notes complementing our conversation and the delectable meal. ABC Kitchen embodies the farm-to-table philosophy at its absolute finest, meticulously sourcing ingredients to create dishes that are both innovative and deeply satisfying. The ambiance itself, with its rustic-chic decor and warm lighting, fosters an intimate and romantic setting. One of my most memorable experiences fitting this description was our incredible oyster BBQ at Tomales Bay Oyster Company, nestled about an hour’s drive outside the vibrant city of San Francisco, California. You might recall my unforgettable trip there last year, which was a whirlwind of breathtaking scenery, the soothing rhythm of crashing ocean waves, and an abundance of fresh, delicious seafood.
The journey itself to Tomales Bay is part of the experience, winding through picturesque coastal landscapes that feel a world away from the urban bustle of San Francisco. Once there, the Tomales Bay Oyster Company offers a wonderfully rustic and authentic setting. We meticulously selected several dozen glistening, fresh oysters, knowing they would soon be transformed into a culinary masterpiece. With our treasure trove of oysters, along with a carefully chosen bottle of local wine and an assortment of delicious munchies, we embarked on a beautiful hike along the dramatic and windswept Point Reyes. The air was crisp, the views expansive, and the anticipation of our feast grew with every step. Upon returning, we set up our impromptu BBQ, grilling the oysters to smoky perfection right there by the bay. Each oyster, bursting with the briny taste of the Pacific, was a testament to simple, pure flavors. It was an experience of pure perfection – a harmonious blend of stunning natural beauty, invigorating outdoor activity, and an incredibly satisfying, hands-on meal that perfectly captured the essence of the Californian coast. It would be a significant oversight to discuss my top dining experiences in the US without making a crucial stop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a Canadian, visiting Minneapolis might seem a tad unconventional – although, interestingly, many Minnesotans apparently consider themselves almost Canadian in spirit, a delightful discovery! Regardless of perceived randomness, Minneapolis has firmly established itself as one of my absolute favorite US cities. It boasts a unique charm and vibrant energy that truly captivates.
What makes Minneapolis so special, beyond its friendly locals, is its incredible ability to embrace both its distinct seasons. Whether it’s the crisp air of winter or the sun-drenched days of summer (which, to a Minnesotan, often feel like the only two seasons that truly matter!), you’ll find everyone outdoors, engaged in some form of activity or thoroughly enjoying the city’s fabulous array of restaurants and bustling farmer’s markets. The city’s culinary scene is a hidden gem, often celebrated for its innovative approaches to local ingredients and diverse offerings. One meal, in particular, stands out vividly in my memory: a wonderful evening spent with my dear friend Lee and C’s family at Cafe Lurcat in Downtown Minneapolis. Cafe Lurcat itself is renowned for its sophisticated American cuisine and elegant, yet inviting, ambiance. The dishes were expertly crafted, each offering a delightful blend of flavors and artistic presentation, making for a truly fab meal. Following our delicious dinner, we enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the picturesque Loring Park, its tranquil beauty providing the perfect ending to a perfect evening. When my travels take me to any coast, particularly the picturesque shores of the USA, prioritizing fresh seafood becomes an absolute imperative. The ocean’s bounty offers flavors that simply can’t be replicated inland, and I seize every opportunity to indulge. One of my most profoundly memorable meals took place on the idyllic Martha’s Vineyard a few years ago, amidst the joyous celebrations of my cousin’s wedding. It was an experience steeped in tradition, natural beauty, and unparalleled culinary delight.
Our entire extended family gathered and “set up shop” on the serene sands of Menemsha Beach, a location famed for its spectacular sunsets. This magical tradition was so cherished that we eagerly repeated it again last year when we returned to visit my cousin and her family in August. Adding another layer of extraordinary memory to that occasion, we discovered that none other than President Obama was enjoying the very same sunset from a slightly down the beach! It was a surreal and truly special moment, sharing such a quintessential Vineyard experience. But the only thing that may have possibly topped the awe-inspiring scenery was an unexpected culinary discovery: finding a delectable gluten-free pizza within the confines of a National Park after an exhilarating, long day of hiking through the challenging yet rewarding Teton trails.

The location was Leek’s Marina, part of the Signal Mountain Lodge complex, offering stunning views of Jackson Lake and the Tetons. The rustic charm of the lodge, combined with the sheer satisfaction of that pizza, created a perfect memory. I already know, with absolute certainty, that I’ll be planning a return visit to Leek’s Marina for another glorious slice of that restorative gluten-free pizza one day very soon. It’s a testament to how the right meal, at the right time and place, can transcend culinary excellence and become an unforgettable part of an adventure.
