Choosing the right accommodation can make or break a trip, and in Boise, the Inn at 500 Capitol stands out as an unparalleled choice. Without question, this is where you should plan your stay. Beyond offering truly top-notch accommodations, its location is simply unbeatable. Nestled just a block or two away from the main hustle and bustle of downtown, it provides a serene escape while keeping you within easy walking distance of all the city’s major attractions. If you’re not planning to rent a car and prefer to explore Boise primarily on foot, the Inn at 500 Capitol is your ideal base.
Our room at the Inn was a highlight, featuring a double balcony that offered a breathtaking view of the majestic State Capitol building and the picturesque foothills stretching out to the right. While my one minor lament was the absence of a bathtub (a small detail for a true #bathjunkie), the Inn more than compensated with its thoughtful amenities. The freedom and flexibility it provides are absolutely worth it for a comprehensive Idaho adventure.

Downtown Boise is a delightful area, perfect for leisurely strolls and discovering unique local gems. Its tree-lined streets are home to an abundance of charming boutiques, art galleries, and quaint cafes. My love for farmer’s markets is unwavering, and no city visit is complete without exploring its local bounty. Before my trip, I confess I held modest expectations for the Boise Farmer’s Market. I was delightfully proven wrong! Upon arrival, it became immediately clear that the farm-to-table movement is not just a trend in Boise; it’s a deeply ingrained culinary philosophy. Yet, the wine scene just outside Boise, specifically within the Snake River Valley AVA (American Viticultural Area), is on the cusp of a major explosion. The wines emerging from this distinctive region are truly remarkable and will undoubtedly impress even the most discerning palates. The landscape itself, with its rolling hills and fertile soil, rivals the picturesque beauty of some of California’s most renowned wineries in Napa and Sonoma.
To experience this blossoming wine country, head to Caldwell, Idaho, approximately 40 minutes from Boise. This area is home to several must-visit wineries. I highly recommend making stops at Koenig Winery, known for its elegant wines and stunning views, Sawtooth Winery, celebrated for its diverse offerings and expansive estate, and Fujishin Family Cellars, a testament to passionate winemaking. I crowdsourced recommendations from my Instagram followers, and Boise’s culinary offerings did not disappoint. Every single meal we enjoyed was a highlight, rivaling even the impressive wine tasting experiences. Boise truly shines as a destination for food lovers, championing locally sourced ingredients and innovative culinary creativity.

Fork is undeniably a Boise classic and consistently ranks as one of the most recommended restaurants in the city. Our meal here was exceptional, but the appetizers truly stole the show! Despite this, we thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, the Idaho trout and the short ribs, both perfectly prepared. For coffee aficionados, Slow by Slow Coffee quickly became our go-to spot every single morning. The quality of their coffee simply could not be surpassed. While I’m told Boise boasts many excellent coffee shops, this one captured our hearts from the very first day, and we couldn’t resist returning. Beyond their superb coffee, their cherry croissants are absolutely unreal – a definite must-try! Grabbing one of these delectable pastries with your morning brew is the perfect way to kickstart your day of Boise exploration.
